Years 5 and 6 enjoyed a visit from the Fire Service.  Members of the fire service talked  about their roles and what it is like to be a fire fighter.

Today the children reflected about what happens when we have problems with their friendships. They said that when they fall out with friends it makes them feel sad and worried.

This week, we discussed alcohol abuse. We used our oracy skills to instigate and build on each other’s ideas. 

We spoke about how alcoholism affects the person and their health and well-being. 

And then how it can affect other people around them. 

Class 12 have been learning about how to make the right choices.

They were given a scenario which they had to work out in a pair what was right and what was wrong along with how things could have been handled differently.

This week in PSHE, class 12 used their oracy skills to discuss the key question of: should we trust everything we see in the media? 

They came to the consensus that because things can be manipulated by editing and AI that we cannot trust the media.

In class 5 we have been thinking about what makes a good friend. 

The children thought of times when they have been kind to others and made badges to celebrate their friendships. 

We have been looking at all types of legal drugs and how we can stay safe and make good choices around them.

We made posters today to inform other children of the dangers and safety measures you might need to take.

Some very thoughtful and sensible questions were asked.

This week, we began our first topic in PSHE: drugs, alcohol and tobacco. The children each got into groups and researched a different drug. 

They used the information to make posters and present to the rest of the class.

Today we played differences bingo. 

We spent time finding out what differences we have between us all in class. 

We discussed our differences and how they could be celebrated.

Class 16 enjoyed an introductory lesson to first aid.  Children discussed their understanding of first aid and created their own definitions.

Class 16 then went onto identifying risks in different settings and how to reduce risk.
