Measles is currently circulating at high levels in several regions in England and across Europe, affecting mainly unvaccinated children under the age of 10.

  • European cases are already double the number of cases reported last year, and the highest they have been since 1997.
  • In the UK, London is currently accounting for half of the cases reported in England. This localised spread can quickly change as infected people move around the country resulting in the spread of the disease in other regions.

UKHSA are urging anyone travelling this summer to check they are up to date with their measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccination ahead of going on holiday.

Two doses of the MMR vaccine is needed for full protection and to prevent further spread of the illness.

It is never too late to catch up on missed doses.
