Class 7 have had a visit from Sir William Petty to tell them all about The Great Fire of London.
Sir William owned a street of houses that were destroyed in the fire. He showed us maps of London before and after the fire, explained why St Paul’s Cathedral, a stone built building with a lead roof was destroyed during the fire and how its steeple was previously broken.
The children took part in experiments to understand how and why the fire spread and to understand why it was so difficult to put the fire out.
Sir William also talked a lot about his friend Samuel Pepys and King Charles II and their roles in the fire.
