This week in science class 12 we have had an oracy focus. 

We have been discussing: are metals a sustainable material? 

And are electric cars good for the environment?

This week, we looked at Greenland, and how the residents are affected by the melting ice caps. 

We then had a debate, where some children argued that the melting ice caps were having a positive impact on Greenland, and some children argued against.

Today we practiced performing poetry. We developed our oracy skills by concentrating on the speed and volume of our voice. 

We added in gestures and actions to improve the performance.

Class 15 enjoyed investigating how Vikings lived on a day-to-day basis.  Children worked in groups and researched a chosen topic, such as Viking homes.

This week, we used our oracy skills to look at a scenario and discuss how Sasha might be feel8mg at differing points within the story. 

Discussing topics like moving house, moving school, gaining a step-dad.

Class 15 were very sensible when learning about Buddhist beliefs and discussing the topic of suffering - children used their oracy skills to discuss times when suffering might have taken place.  

Well done Class 15.

This week, we discussed homelessness. 

We spoke about what is important to us, what is essential to living and what is not important. 

Children then gathered their ideas and we used a traverse to explain our ideas.

This week, Class 16 have been learning about hydro-electric power. 

They have researched into the three gorges dam in China. The class was split into 2. Some children looked at the advantage of the three gorges dam, and some children looked at the disadvantages. We then came back together and…

Class 6 have been learning about castles in history. In this oracy lesson the children were voting for the most effective defence using their talk tokens.

Then explaining why, using the stem sentence for support, applying all they have learnt about castles through the term.

This week, we discussed alcohol abuse. We used our oracy skills to instigate and build on each other’s ideas. 

We spoke about how alcoholism affects the person and their health and well-being. 

And then how it can affect other people around them. 

Today we used our oracy skills to discuss how we could investigate a question. 

We then conducted a class investigation to test how strength of vibrations could effect volume. 

This week in history, we studied the suffragettes. 

We discussed their activism, the approaches and extreme measures that they used, and if they were successful activists or not.
