Year 6

This week, as part of our circulatory system topic, we dissected a lambs heart.

The children worked in groups, to dissect and find the atriums and ventricles of the heart.

Class 14 have enjoyed dissecting hearts today and learning all about how the heart works and really enjoyed seeing the inside of the sheep heart we dissected.

Well done class 14.

This week, we discussed what foods can make a healthy lifestyle. The children looked at different food diaries, and different food labels, and discussed what snacks they thought each person should have based on their existing diet. 

We then fed this back to the class.

Class 15 have learnt about iambic pentameter poems this week.

They have performed a poem using William Shakespeare’s rules. 

Congratulations to everyone who took part. They came in first place beating 8 of the local schools.

There were some fantastic displays on the track in the warm heat.

This week, we performed our re-written modern versions of the highway man. 

We acted these out to the class.

Class 14 made a domino run during wet play this week, it was reasonably successful!

This week, we learnt more about how Hindus worship their God at home as well as the temple. 

We explored the artefact boxes, which revealed different components of prayer for Hindus.

This week was our first lesson on National Parks. We discussed what they are, and why they might be called breathing spaces. 

The children then used clues and maps to find out where the national parks are in the UK.

The computing club tested out LeoCAD, a free open‑source digital LEGO CAD program, exploring how it lets users build detailed virtual LEGO models using thousands of bricks that closely mimic real-life construction.

This week, Class 16 researched different life cycles. 

These included ducks, frogs, mammals and fish. 

Children then presented their research to the rest of the class, and we summarised the information, thinking about the listening ladder and the physical strand of our oracy framework.
